German Tantalus

Description:

German Tantalus, late 19th/early 20th century, three cut glass decanters with faceted stoppers in brass holder, hanging oval tags marked "RYE", "SCOTCH", and "WHISKEY," center key unlocks to release handle for decanter removal, footed marked "WMF I/O" on underside and inscribed "11420," ht. 14, wd. 15 in.

Wear to gilded finish in several areas including feet and some protruding areas of the frame (white metal showing through). Glass bottles with matched stoppers. Two with nicked losses around underside of foot rim, with several flaked losses extending to outer edge (to 1/4 in.),one with additional crescent-shaped crack to foot about 3/8 in. wide (stable, beginning of a chip). The third with more extensive chips along foot rim (1/2 in. flake to one corner underside, 3 chips extending along foot to body lg. to 1/2 in.) and a 3/8 in. deep chipped loss to mouth rim.
