dated "ALEXANDER PINX'T 1735" l.r., titled and inscribed "Cosmus-George-Duke of Gordon/Aetatis: 15/Alexr Pinxit A.D. 1735" on the reverse.
Oil on canvas, approximately 30 x 25 in. (76.3 x 63.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, minor abrasions, surface grime.

Under UV examination, there is a milky white reflection from varnish overall. There are two dots of retouch to the sitter's left cheek, the larger spot measuring 1/4 in. There are a few brushstrokes of retouch at the top of the hair. A few scattered dots of retouch in the background, the largest one measuring 1-1/8 in diameter and located at the l.l. side. Craquelure, which is stable, is visible on the sitter's forehead, nose, and right cheek. Scattered minor abrasions at the edges of the canvas.
