Auction: American & European Works of Art - 2816B Location: Boston Date / Time: May 29, 2015 12:00PM

Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987)

Northwest Coast Mask, from COWBOYS AND INDIANS, 1986, edition of 250 plus proofs, published by Gaultney, Klineman Art, Inc., New York, printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York (Feldman & Schellmann, II.380). Numbered and signed "28/250 Andy Warhol" in pencil l.r., printer's dry stamp l.l. Color screenprint on paperboard, sheet size 36 x 36 in. (91.4 x 91.4 cm), framed.
Condition: Floated within the mat, not examined out of frame.

N.B. Warhol applied his pop sensibilities to the Cowboys and Indians series, choosing iconic images such as Geronimo, Annie Oakley, and John Wayne. He also included several images of cultural objects including a pair of kachina dolls, a Plains Indian shield, and this Northwest Coast mask, probably made by the Kwakiutl tribe.
Estimate $10,000-15,000

Due to the extensive framing, the work cannot be viewed out of the frame. However, the print is floated within the frame and does not appear to be laid down. No additional issues to report.
