Embroidered Silk Sleeveless Cape, China, 19th/20th century, embroidered with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl amongst the clouds, surrounded by various mythical birds above a lishui border, with couched gold thread highlights, a blue brocade border, and a macrame and tassel fringe, lg. 45 in.
Provenance: Purchased in Beijing at the turn of the century when the current owner's grandmother was stationed at the Princeton University Alumni organized Y.M.C.A outpost, as reported in The Princeton Alumni Weekly, Vol. XIV, No. 18, February 11, 1914.
