Description:

Paul-Emile Pissaro (French, 1884-1972)

Wheat Stacks
Signed "Paul émile Pissaro" l.l., label from Wally F Galleries, New York, on the
backing.
Oil on canvas, 10 x 13 in. (25.4 x 33.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Retouch.
Estimate $4,000-6,000

Titled "Gerbes dans un champ" in marker on the stretcher and inscribed "WF N.Y." also in marker on the stretcher.

Under UV one can see a small "holiday" in the pigment in the u.r. corner of the sky, where there was less paint applied. This was interpreted as retouch originally, but this actually does not appear to be a paint loss or damage of any kind, only an area likely missed by the artist's brush.
