Afghan Girl, Refugee Camp, Pakistan, 1984, printed before c. 1995. Signed "Steve McCurry" in pencil on the overmat l.r., numbered "5/10" in pencil on the overmat l.l., signed "Steve McCurry" in black ink below the image l.r., numbered "5/10" in black ink below the image l.l., identified on a label affixed to the backing. Chromogenic print on Agfa paper, image size 11 5/8 x 8 in. (29.5 x 20.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor handling crimps, hinged at the top edge in two places.
Provenance: The current owner acquired the print from a charity auction in the early 1990s.
N.B. This now iconic portrait was featured on the cover of the June 1985 issue of National Geographic. A copy of Portraits: Steve McCurry (Phaidon Press Limited, 1999) accompanies the lot.
