The Thames, 1896, final state of three (Chicago, 161). Butterfly monogram within the matrix. Lithograph on chine collé, image size 10 1/2 x 7 3/4 in. (26.5 x 19.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Gently toned, supporting sheet laid down, with mat burn, and with glue residue and pencil annotations to margins.
N.B. This is one of the final lithotints created by Whistler. This particular technique creates an effect similar to that of his painted nocturnes. The view, though reversed, is from a balcony at London's Savoy Hotel.
