Monumental Carved Wood Figure of Guanyin, Ming dynasty-style, depicting the goddess of compassion in the posture of "royal ease" with one arm resting on her knee and holding part of her robes, the robes ornamented with beads and jewelry, wearing a headdress with a miniature Amitabha Buddha at the center, traces of pigment and gilt all over, ht. 73 1/2, d. 28 in.
Provenance: From the estate of Peter L. Rosenberg.
Extensive repairs, arm, knee, robes and left side of face have been filled in, losses to wood on the reverse and sides.
