Hirado Water Jar, Japan, mid-19th century, four panels depicting cranes over waves and pine trees, a phoenix flying over a cloud, two ducks amongst autumn reeds, and a hawk sitting on a pine branch, on an incised geometric ground, the cover with four fan-shaped cartouches depicting cranes, clouds, and pine, the finial with two longevity turtles, ht. 8 1/4, dia. 7 7/8 in.
