Carlton Theodore Chapman (American, 1860-1925)
Sailboats at Anchor. Unsigned, inscribed "St. Malo/Aug 30" faintly in pencil l.l., identified and dated "1900" on a label from William Vareika Fine Arts, Newport, Rhode Island, affixed to the frame backing paper. Watercolor on paper, sheet size 7 1/2 x 10 1/8 in., framed. Condition: Gentle toning, nicks and losses to the edges of the sheet, hinged to window mat in two places along top edge, with an unfinished pastel and watercolor sketch of sailboats on the reverse.
