Pewter Salt Cellar, possibly Boston, late 18th century, the flattened urn form with flaring rim on a molded base, engraving on side reads "made by Joshua Bates in the workshop of Paul Revere," ht. 1 1/2 in.
Note: An old note found inside reads "this salt cellar was made by Col. Joshua Bates when he was a boy. He was for a short time in the shop of Paul Revere and made one pair of salt cellars but soon left, not liking the trade..."
