Description:

Needlework Picture Showing a House with Woman, Sarah Pomeroy, Northampton, Massachusetts, c. 1762, worked in wool threads on a canvas ground, depicting a pink house with red door beside four trees and five black birds above, the foreground with a woman picking strawberries into a basket, 7 x 8 1/4 in. (sight),in original black-painted molded frame with incised gilt-gesso liner. Condition: Minor losses to threads.

Provenance: Robert W. Skinner, 1972.

Note: A handwritten note affixed to the reverse reads: "This worked Picture was made by Sarah Pomeroy about 1762. She was the wife of Colonel Scott Pomeroy of North Hampton, Mass, and was my Great Grandmother. Henry M. ----- (his last name) West Springfield Mass, Apr 25 189?"
