Description:

After Sir Anthony van Dyck (Flemish, 1599-1641)

Christ Crowned with Thorns
Inscribed in the plate "Anton. van Dyck inuenit et fecit aqua forti" l.c., with an
embossed stamp "CHALCOGRAPHIE/MUSEE DU LOUVRE " l.c.
Engraving and etching on paper (modern impression), plate size 10 5/16 x 8 1/2 in., framed.
Condition: Good, not examined out of frame.

N.B. The Web site of the Musée du Louvre, describes the "Chalcographie" section (prints and engravings) of their museum store: ...prints issued by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, taken from the museum's collection of original copper plates dating from the 17th century to the present day, including architectural views, landscapes, seascapes, botanical prints, portraits, religious and decorative subjects, and contemporary art. All are produced by hand on a copper plate press and bear the stamp of the 'Chalcographie du Louvre'."
Estimate $100-150

Although the frame has not been opened for inspection, the work appears to be an intaglio print, conforming with the description on the web site for the Chalcographie du Louvre (http://www.chalcographiedulouvre.com/html/2b/collection/coll2.htm).
