Pair of Louis XVI Painted and Upholstered Bergeres, Paris, c. 1770, stamped "JB Boulard" for Jean Baptiste Boulard (c. 1725-1789),each with carved and gray-painted frame featuring a cartouche-shaped backrest, scrolled armrests, and flowerhead carvings to each knee, raised on fluted and tapered legs terminating in toupie feet, upholstered throughout in silk damask, ht. 39 3/4 in.
N.B. Boulard (maître, 1755) was particularly respected for his seating furniture. His studio was commissioned by the Garde-Meuble to supply pieces for the royal châteaux of Versailles, Fontainebleau, and Compiègne.
