Description:

George Shiebler & Co. Sterling Silver Trophy Tray, New York, late 19th century, oblong, with an Art Nouveau floral-decorated rim and a gold-washed interior engraved "Newport Citizens Club/Aug. 8th 1895./won by/EMERALD," lg. 18 1/2 in., approx. 37.3 troy oz.

N.B. Emerald, a steel schooner, was designed by Henry C. Wintringham in 1893 and originally owned by John Rogers Maxwell. Maxwell was a member of the New York Yacht Club who also owned the schooner Shamrock. The notorious Captain Haff skippered the Emerald. Henry "Hank" Haff was one of the most respected skippers of the day and won the America's Cup four times in fourteen years. He was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 2004.

In good overall condition with only minor rubbing to gold-washed surface and a minor dent to edge. Several very light abrasions to the surface.
