Description:

Martha Farham Cahoon (American, 1905-1999)

A Family of Three
Signed and dated "Martha Cahoon 76" l.r.
Oil on Masonite, 17 3/4 x 24 in. (45.2 x 61.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Retouch to l.l. corner, discolored varnish, surface grime.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

Under UV light, the varnish coat shows striping from broad brush application. The retouch is minimal and occurs in the l.l. corner in two thin, parallel lines about 1/8 inch up from the bottom and 9 inches across, perhaps to repair a minor surface abrasion or even pooling of varnish on the brush as it was applied.

Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist, then by family descent to the current owner.
