Max Klinger (German, 1857-1920)

INTERMEZZI (Radierung Opus IV)/Portfolio of Twelve Images, 1881 (Singer, 52-63). Each identified in the plate, set identified on the portfolio cover. Etchings with aquatint on chine collé, mount sizes 24 3/4 x 17 5/8 in. (62.8 x 44.6 cm),presented in the original portfolio (wear, toning, cover of spine missing).
Condition: Toning and wear to edges and corners, several with fox marks and minor tears.

Provenance: From Paul Horst-Schulze (1876-1937),Klinger's student, to his niece, then by descent to the present owner.
Estimate $1,200-1,800

Scattered soiling and/or discoloration and handling wear on mounts. I: Wear and discoloration along all edges of mount with scattered foxing along right; II: Fox marks at l.c. and u.r. corner of mount with wear at u.r.; III: Minor staining l.r.; VI: Vertical tear in mount l.c.; X: Scattered foxing l.c.; XI: Worn corner l.l.; XII: 2 vertical tears c.l. and 1 tear u.r. of mount, creases in mount u.c. and at all four corners. No additional condition to report.
