Providence (Unpublished #178), 1963, printed c. 1980. Signed "Harry Callahan" in graphite below the image l.r. Gelatin silver print, image size 9 3/8 x 9 1/4 in. (23.8 x 23.5 cm),unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Unmounted, slight rippling to sheet at top.

Provenance: Estate of Tennyson Schad, New York.

N.B. One of the most significant American photographers of the twentieth century, Harry Callahan was chair of the photography department at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence from 1961 until 1973.

Sheet measures 11 7/8 x 11 in. (30.2 x 28.0 cm). Inscribed "300.0.6.1" in graphite on the verso l.r. and "#17S" in graphite on the verso u.c.
