Shaker Mangle Iron, 19th century, rectangular with pointed front edge, with spiral twist handle, used in the tailor shop or laundry, ht. 6 1/2, wd. 2 1/4, lg. 12 1/2 in.

The Shakers purchased many household items from worldly manufacturers. In the May 1979 issue of The Magazine Antiques it is reported that this mangle, or flatiron, was used in a Shaker tailoring shop.
