Description:

Frost, Robert (1874-1963) A Boy's Will, Inscribed. London: David Nutt, 1913.
First edition, bound in bronze textured cloth, lettered in gilt on the front board, inscribed on ffep, to "Emma Pearl Goldsmith, Beaconsfield, Bucks, England, May 1913, For your graduation," with notes in the text presumably added by Ms. Goldsmith, binding a bit shaky, 7 1/2 x 5 in.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

Binding feels delicate, slight loss at the head and tail, rubbing. The cloth along the joints themselves is intact, asnare the endleaves along the inner joints, front and back. The spine is slightly faded and rubbed.

Most of the notes are in pen, although some are in pencil. Notes seemingly in the hand of the dedicatee, who was a member of Frost's poetry class at Pinkerton Academy. The notes are of the following character: on the dedication page, where the dedicatee (Frost's wife) is identified by her initials, her full name is written out; at the foot of the poem, "My November Guest" is the note, "R.F. read Jan. 10, 1916 at Vendome." The same note appears beneath five other poems. Other schoolroom notes exist, including at one point, "Compare to Shakespeare," et cetera. Inside the pastedown is a manuscript poem about the poetry class at Pinkerton.
