Description:
Satsuma Covered Vase, Japan, 19th/20th century, baluster-shape with a short straight neck and unglazed mouth rim, the body decorated with mythical figures in two shaped reserves on a warm yellow ground with fine crazing, in polychrome enamels and rich gold with some thickly applied turquoise and green overglaze details, the rest decorated with floral and foliate scrolls and polychrome roundels with arabesque designs, the foot with over-painted iron red floral scrolls, the flattened dome-shape cover with a bud-shape knob with gilt finial, ht. 24 3/4 in.
