Painted Cast Iron Mechanical "Always Did Spise a Mule" Bank, J. & E. Stevens, c. 1879, with a hinged seated boy and mule, when coin is placed under the boy the lever near the rear of the mule is pulled and activates the mule to turn clockwise and kick the boy triggering the release of the coin into the bank, underside reading PAT April 22 1879 & PENDG, ht. 6 in.
