George Barber Miniature Shelf Clock, Unionville, Connecticut, c. 1840, the mahogany case with carved columns flanking the painted wooden dial with Arabic numerals, raised gilded dots around the perimeter, gilt and painted scrollwork in the spandrels, the lower tablet depicting a country garden scene with pendulum aperture, printed label inside reading in part, Invented by Eli Terry/ Made and Sold by George Barber/Unionville, Conn..., thirty-hour five-wheel-train wooden movement with count-wheel strike and recoil escapement powered by two iron weights, ht. 22 in.

Dial paint undisturbed, holes in dial to access crutch and pallets appear to be of the period but uncertain, case refinished, top section of popular backboard is a replacement, period iron weights.
