27-inch Troughton & Simms Two-draw Spyglass, London, c. 1860, first draw with engraved scale 25-40, the second draw reads: Presented by the British Government to Mr. James C. Stowell, Chief Mate of the United States Ship "Harvest Queen" in the testimony of his gallant conduct on the occasion of the rescue of the Master and Crew of the "Xiphies" of St. John's N:B: on the 22nd January 1860, with a leather-wrapped barrel and lens shade, lg. extended 37 1/2 in.
