Smith Carbine, c. 1861-65, walnut stock and forend, steel fittings, marked on the left side of the breech MANUFACTURED BY/MASS ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS, SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23. 1857, and ADDRESS/POULTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, U.S.A., serial number on the frame pivot 17378, barrel lg. 21 5/8, overall lg. 39 3/8 in.

Walnut stock has some dings and light wood loss near forend screw and near breech, also has a small P carved in the back of the butt, barrel band and buttplate have been refinished.
