Description:

Model 1858 Hardee Hat, c. mid to late 19th century, black felt hat body with two rows of stitching around brim, black silk grosgrain ribbon around crown, and a blue wool infantry hat cord, black paper label on inside crown of hat marked U.S. ARMY over an eagle, shield, and panoply of arms, and EXTRA/MANUFACTURE/3, ht. 6 in.

Provenance: Sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College.

Felt in good condition, missing the sweatband.
