James Sanford Ellsworth (American, 1802/03-1874)

Pair of Husband and Wife Portrait Miniatures. Signed "Ellsworth Painter" below the subjects. Watercolor on paper, depicting the half-length subjects in profile, holding a book, surrounded by shaded gray cloud-like formations, sight size 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 in., in a common period mahogany frame. Condition: Minor toning, a few superfluous black specks on background, frame with repaired cracks.

Provenance: Formerly in the Follansbee collection, Lucy B. Mitchell collection, then by family descent.
