Description:

Three Framed Watercolor and Calligraphic Pages of a Young Man's Problem Book, reportedly executed by Christian Miller while attending Chestnut Hill Seminary in Pennsylvania, c. 1815, three pages framed to view the front and back of each, watercolor and ink on paper, depicting four Federal style houses with inscriptions describing the calculations needed for measuring and pricing roofing, flooring, and paving; two sides without illustrations: one with calligraphic inscriptions of calculations in carpenter's and joiner's work, and one calculating the cost of "Paviour's Work," sight sizes 16 x 10 1/4, 16 3/4 x 10 3/4, in black-painted wood frames, and 15 1/4 x 9 1/4 in., in a molded giltwood frame.

Provenance: Purchased from the John Gordon Gallery, New York.
