Quarter-plate Ambrotype Portrait of a Militia Officer Wearing a Plumed Shako Hat, the shako, with artillery insignia, is topped with tall ostrich plumes, which along with his jacket epaulets are faintly tinted red, his jacket tinted gray/blue, the insignia, collar, buttons, belt buckle, and ring heightened with gilt, mounted in an oval gilt-gesso frame, (emulsion scratches from previous frame).
