Seated Bather Beside a Classical Column
Graphite, ink wash, and gouache on laid paper, 12 x 8 1/2 in. (30.4 x 21.6 cm), framed.
Condition: Toning, mounted to cardboard support.
N.B. The work is accompanied by a copy of a letter from Victor Carlson, Chicago, Illinois, dated May 1, 2003, supporting the attribution of the drawing as Hubert Robert, but suggesting that the watercolor embellishment was probably by another hand.
Impressed initials l.r., which may read "FR" or "TR" (believed to be by a previous owner to be a collector's mark for Francois Renaud [Lugt 1042] as evidenced on the backing), acid burn, no additional condition issues to report.
