Ten folio volumes, the Emperor's edition, copy number one of seventy-five, illustrated with sixty full-page hand-tinted albumen photographs, and 200 smaller-format hand-tinted photographs used as text illustrations and mounted; ten collotypes of flowers, and thirty reproductions of Japanese paintings on fabric or special paper; portrait of Emperor Mutsuhito in volume one, bound in full silk bindings, the set multicolored (in red, black, blue, olive, gray, pink, orange, etc.),with elaborate designs woven into the fabric; Japanese-style binding, with two coordinating silk ties holding each volume together; some bindings fraying, some rice paper overleaves torn with loss, generally good, 15 x 12 1/4 in.
