Description:

Confederate Cartridge Box, c. 1861-65, brown leather cartridge box with slits on the cover for a plate, tin plate inside the bottom of the box, copper rivets, brass finial, attachment straps for both a shoulder sling and waistbelt, with a typed museum tag which states Rebel Cartridge Box/ Fort Hindman/ G.H. Thomas Post #8, and the remaining number missing, ht. 7, wd. 8 1/4, dp. 2 in.

Provenance: This cartridge box was purchased at an estate sale near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lancaster was also home to the George Henry Thomas G.A.R. Post #83, which presumably held the box in its collection in the late 19th/early 20th century.
Estimate $600-800

Leather is dry with some cracking, missing finial tab, and buckles on the bottom, shoulder belt loops are worn, with one being broken.
