Signed "Calder" l.c., dated "71" l.l., numbered in pencil "10860B" on the reverse.
Gouache kakemono, 26 x 4 1/8 in. (66.0 x 9.3 cm),framed.
Condition: Small accretion u.r., minor abrasions or surface imperfections to red triangle at u.l., gentle toning, sheet affixed at intervals to a paper support measuring 26 3/4 x 5 in. (68.0 x 12.7 cm),with that support mounted to mat board backing.

Provenance: Perles Gallery, New York; to Hokin Gallery, Inc., Chicago and Palm Beach (1973); to Milton and Marilyn Corwin Collection, Palm Beach (c. 1980); to the current owner by family descent (2007).

N.B. The work is registered with the Calder Foundation, Application No. A06573.
The word kakemono is used to describe a Japanese scroll painting or calligraphy, usually long and narrow, designed to be rolled or hung vertically for display.

Accretion, perhaps a spot of glue, on the u.r. of the black spiral form. The "white" triangle form at u.c. is actually a void cut out from the sheet, showing the mat below. No additional condition issues to report.
