Signed and dated "J.W. Hill 1877" l.r., identified on a presentation plaque and a
label affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 in. (61.0 x 91.4 cm),framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, bloom/varnish lifting, craquelure, minor surface grime.

The lining is adhered with wax and there seems to be a solid (aluminum?) support sandwiched between the old and new canvases. The lining was probably due to a ragged (now repaired) tear in the top of and to the right of the tallest tree. The tear was about 7 inches long. There are other scattered dots and dashes of retouch.
