Portrait of a Potentate
Oil on canvas, 24 x 18 3/4 in. (61.0 x 48.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Patch reinforcement, small tear, retouch, surface grime.
Provenance: From the collection of the late Henry C. Veit.
Repaired tear at l.l. corner with a corresponding patch reinforcement on the reverse. Small vertical tear, measuring 1 inch, located at l.r. Stretcher bar marks with some tenting to the paint surface along the lines. Bulge to paint surface at upper edge, just left of center. Evidence of another patch in u.r. corner, suggested by a raised area of the canvas surface, but this is not confirmed because any such patch would be hidden beneath the stretcher on the reverse. Area of retouch at center top background in the dark area behind the red curtain.
