Jim Dine (American, b. 1935)

Etching Lesson, from EIGHT SHEETS FROM AN UNIDENTIFIED NOVEL, STATE II, 1979, edition of 35 plus proofs (D'Oench & Feinberg, 39). Signed and dated "Jim Dine 1979" in pencil l.r., numbered "22/35" in pencil l.l. Etching with soft ground, aquatint and tooling on paper, plate size 29 7/9 x 22 1/4 in. (75.7 x 56.4 cm),unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Margins over 1 inch with deckled edges.

N.B. The original version of the series was executed in 1976, and the images were based on drawings completed by the artist in the previous year. According to D'Oench & Feinberg, Dine wanted to express the fact that this second version was a revision to earlier versions of these images by exploiting slightly off-register impressions.
