composition, also inscribed on the reverse.
Gouache, ink, and graphite on vellum, sheet size 11 11/16 x 9 15/16 in. (29.7 x 25.2 cm),unframed.
Condition: Trimmed sheet, handling creases, tack holes.
Provenance: Collection of Tatiana Riabouchinska (Russian, 1917-2000).
N.B. Soudeikine designed the set and costumes for the ballet Paganini, which was a collaboration between choreographer Michel Fokine and composer Sergei Rachmaninoff in 1939. It was created for Colonel Wassily De Basil's Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and set to Rachmaninoff's 1934 work Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The present work depicts Riabouchinska's scene II solo.
