Chuck Close (American, b. 1940)

Phil I (White), 1982, edition of 15 plus proofs (Butler Institute/Zona, 23). Signed and dated "C Close 1982" in pencil l.r., numbered "13/15" in pencil l.l. Pressed paper pulp in white, grays, and black, image size 51 1/2 x 41 1/2 in. (130.6 x 105.4 cm),framed.
Condition: Irregular deckled edges (a result of the process of creating the work),floated within the frame, not examined out of frame.


Provenance: A private Massachusetts collection.

N.B. The subject of this work is the composer Philip Glass, the artist¹s close friend.


Estimate $50,000-70,000

The sheet measures approximately 68 1/2 x 53 1/2 in. and was created with very irregular edges. There are tack holes at the upper corners (probably from when the work was produced). There are several tiny possible fox marks or spots of stray pigment. The "glass" is Pelixglas. Due to the size of the work this has not and will not be removed from the frame.
