N.B. Devil's Holiday (Le diable s'amuse) was choreographed by Frederick Ashton for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1939, at the invitation of the company's director Léonide Massine. With the London ballet season cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II, the ballet premiered instead in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House on October 26, 1939. The ballet featured music by Vincenzo Tommasini on themes by Paganini and décor by Eugene Berman.
