Schoolgirl Silk Needlework Map of Boston Harbor, "Work'd by Sally Dodge at Mrs. Rowsons [School] Medford Feb'y 27 1800," stitched with silk threads on a silk ground, with a blue banner at the top inscribed "BOSTON HARBOR," and a Federal-style eagle at lower left with a banner inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak, above her signature and a panoply, (imperfections),24 1/2 x 20 1/2 in., in a molded wood frame.
The silk ground is toned to a golden yellow and has several lines of fraying on the top third, and a few lines of fraying to the center third of the work. The work may have had a mat at some point in time causing the lighter color around the edges.
