Thomas Ware (American, 1803-1836)

Portrait of Vienna Goodnow, Aged 24 Years. Unsigned, the subject identified in penciled inscriptions on the back of the portrait "Painted by Thomas Ware; Framed by Abiah Smart; Picture of Vienna Goodnow, Born February 6, 1796/Painted when 24 yrs old/Painting is 73 years old/Died 1886/June/1930-Picture 110 yrs old"; Vienna Goodnow is reportedly from Springfield, Vermont. Oil on panel, 24 3/2 x 19 1/2 in., in a period mahogany veneered frame. Condition: Scattered surface abrasions, retouch.
