Amish Pieced Cotton Snowball Pattern Quilt, Midwestern United States, c. 1930, hand-stitched quilt composed of twenty large blocks with variant Snowball pattern of contrasting solid colored cotton segments separated with solid sashing and smaller pieced squares, backed with navy blue and white woven cotton fabric, with feather, diagonal line, and teacup quilting stitches, the colors faded to mellow tones, (minor fraying on edges), 72 x 87 in.
Provenance: Ex Espirit collection.
Unwashed or barely washed condition; 1 1/4, 1/2 in. area of fray on edges; Velcro has been applied (handstitched) around all four edges of the backing.
We have a photo-copy of an appraisal from the consignor of the quilt. The appraisel was done by Julie Silber. Julie curated the the Espirit collection of Amish Quilts, which were exhibited at the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum among others. Accesssion # 585, deaccession #?124.
