Ernest Berke (American, 1921-2010)
The Chieftain.
Titled, numbered, dated, and signed "The Chieftain/2(within a circle)/© 1967/Ernest
Berke" in the bronze base behind the horse's left rear leg. Bronze with dark brown patina, 18 1/2 x 19 x 8 1/2 in., mounted to a wooden plinth.
Condition: Three small pieces broken from the sculpture accompany the work, slight bend to spear, dust and dirt to interstices.
