Description:

Dutch Colonial Late Baroque-style Silver-mounted Hardwood Cabinet on Stand, possibly Batavia (now Jakarta),Indonesia, late 19th/early 20th century, the two-door cabinet with unmarked solid silver mounts decorated in the Chinese style, enclosing an open interior fitted with a later medial shelf, the stand with molded edge above deep drapery swags interrupted by six square tapering legs joined by scrolled X-form stretcher, total ht. 80 1/2, wd. 50 5/8, dp. 23 5/8 in.

N.B. A photograph taken by Earl C. Roper of Philadelphia, showing the piece in situ in an interior, accompanies the lot. Roper worked in Philadelphia during the 1920s. The home remains unidentified.

Cabinet: fading to wood around silver (possibly from silver polish). Lacking key. Small drilled hole to top of one door. Lacking some silver screws, but all silver mounting are secure. Interior re-fitted with removable medial shelf. Stand: Minor joint separation to stretchers. Throughout: Minor shrinkage cracks and wear.
