Mary Cassatt (American, 1843-1926)

Margot Wearing a Large Bonnet, Seated in an Armchair, c. 1904, edition probably of 50 (Breeskin, 192). Signed and inscribed "Mary Cassatt no 9." in pencil l.r. Drypoint on laid paper with VANDERLEY and crest-form watermarks, plate size 11 7/8 x 9 1/2 in. (30.2 x 24.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Margins 1 1/2 inches or more with deckled edges, toning, mat burn, scattered fox marks, losses to edges near upper corners, repaired tears, printing flaws, pencil annotations along the lower edge.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

The sheet measures 16 3/4 x 12 13/16 in. There is a repaired tear to the left margin, just under 1 1/4 inches in length, and a repaired ragged tear to the upper margin and into the image by about 1/2 inch. There are old clothe tape and newer Japan paper hinges near the upper corners. The printing flaws consist of pressed creases, one long one to the background u.r., and three short ones just inside the platemark l.r.
