Max Beckmann (German, 1884-1950)

Der Morgen, 1923, plate 6 from VIERTE JAHRESGABE DES KREISES GRAPHISCHER KUNSTLER UND SAMMLER, published 1924 (Hofmaier, 299). Signed "Beckmann" in pencil l.r. Etching and drypoint on paper, plate size 10 x 12 in. (25.4 x 30.4 cm),framed.
Condition: Subtle toning and mat burn, not examined out of frame.

Sheet size 14 5/8 x 19 in. (37.0 x 47.4 cm). Drystamp to l.l. corner at the plate mark, reading "HEINR. WETTEROTH MÜNCHEN GEDR." Uneven discoloration to the front from an unknown source. Small 1/4 inch tear to u.r. edge, 2 1/2 inches down from the corner, with a crescent-shaped crease leading back to the edge beneath the tear. Small break to u.r. corner. Mat burn, mild toning, minor scattered foxing, subtle handling creases to side margins. Masking tape along top edge of the reverse where the print was once affixed to the window mat.
