Half-plate and Sixth-plate Daguerreotypes of a Painted Portrait and Portrait of aGirl, both subjects identified on a note inscribed in the same hand "Isabella H. Dana born 1847," the half-plate depicting a painted vignette portrait of a young girl, the sixth-plate depicting the same girl a few years older, in pressed-paper/leather cases.
Note: Isabella Hazen Dana was the fourth child of Dr. Francis Dana, Jr. (1806-1872) and Isabella (Hazen White),born on February 9, 1847, in Boston. Her great-grandfather was Francis Dana (1743-1811),a Massachusetts revolutionary leader, Continental congressman, unofficial United States minister to the Russia of Catherine the Great, and chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
