Quarter-plate Ambrotype Portrait of a Sea Captain, his occupation inscribed on a note inside the case reading: "John Henry Francis/Salem, Mass/Sea Captain/Aunt Abby Hall's nephew," in a combination black "The Indian Monument, Havanna, Cuba" and "The Indian Monument, Havanna, Cuba (Reverse)" (Krainik 22, 23) Union case, (faint streak to background l.r.).
Minor foxing and discoloration to image at sitter's right shoulder. Minor flecks and pitting to image in light negative space above sitter. Frame and velvet case interior in sound condition. Overall found in an excellent state of preservation.
