White Porcelain Covered Box, Japan, 19th/20th century, in the shape of a conch with applied barnacles and clams, the cover with a handle shaped as an open clam with a loose pearl inside which makes a clinking sound, the clam on top and crabs on the sides are painted blue, the knobby shell surface in yellow-brown, and the barnacles in transparent glaze, a calligraphic mark in charcoal to unglazed base, dia. 5 in.
