Victorian Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot Silver Trophy, London, 1892-93, Charles Frederick Hancock & Co., maker, shield-form, depicting characters and a scene possibly from the life of King Arthur: the central high relief panel showing two embattled horsemen, within a Neo-gothic cusped arcade surrounded by three portrait medallions possibly of Guinevere, Merlin and Arthur, the lower medallion with the presentation inscription: "ROYAL HUNT CUP/1892/ASCOT/ won by/ "SUSPENDER"/ 3 YEARS 7ST 10LBS," hallmarked throughout with additional "HANCOCKS & CO. 39. BRUTON ST LONDON" to edge, mounted to a wood backing with an easel support, dia. 32 in.


N.B.: This 1892 Royal Hunt Cup win for Suspender marks the third and final win of his racing career, which ended after sustaining an injury during the race. Trained by James Jewitt, this race was the fourth of his five win record that the trainer still holds at the Royal Hunt Cup.

Axe and sword of central figure bent slightly. Exposed seams to joints (please refer to joints). Otherwise in good overall condition with no dents, repairs. Only some very minor, unobtrusive abrasions/nicks to edge. Fully hallmarked throughout including joints to wood panel on reverse. Wood panel slightly warped.
